113 • A Bronze Aquamanile in the form of a Goose
Central Asia, 7th–8th century AD
Size: 35 cm high, 39 cm long
This would appear to be an early prototype of a type of aquamanile produced across the Islamic world, and shows a strong Chinese influence.
A similar type of aquamanile in the form of a cockerel is attributed to 8th–9th century Iran, in the catalogue El Esplendor de los Omeyas Cordobeses, Cordobam 2001, p.51.
